Meet the staff
Fred Hartzman is the Club Director at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, and has been engrossed in the sport of tennis throughout his life. Born and raised in the city of Santa Barbara, Hartzman was the number one singles player for San Marcos High before attending the University of Arizona, where he was twice the Intramurals Doubles Champion and once the Singles Champion. He later became the Head Tennis Pro at the Fess Parker Red Lion Resort, and has been coaching high school and junior players since 2006. As Club Director, Hartzman is responsible for the introduction of Pickleball to the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, and worked tirelessly to bring the sport’s single biggest tournament, the annual USA Pickleball National Championships, right here to the Coachella Valley. Hartzman has two children, and enjoys fly fishing and family vacations to Hawaii.

Melinda Kiriako is the Head Tennis Professional at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, and has been playing competitive tennis since she was just seven years old. Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest city of Seattle, Melinda was a decorated local high school and college tennis player. She was a high school Washington State Singles Champion and played four years of Division 1 tennis between the University of Washington and the University of Hawaii. After graduating, she returned to the island of Manoa as an assistant coach for the University of Hawaii’s tennis program. When Melinda is not busy coaching the next generation of tennis enthusiasts or coordinating matches for Indian Wells Tennis Garden members, she can be found hanging out with her 5-year old daughter Kaia or practicing her secret talent of juggling.
Jai Nettimi is a Tennis Professional at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. He is a USPTA and USTA Youth tennis certified ITA and CIF Coach, who has been voted a top-50 tennis professional in the Southern California region. Involved in the Desert tennis community for over 23 years, Jai has extensive experience in both teaching and coaching the sport, as well as management of facilities and clubs. Jai was born in Southeast India but moved to the United States as a young child; eventually attending the University of California Santa Cruz and winning back to back NCAA tennis titles in 1995 and 1996. After graduating, he played on the ATP satellite tour before settling down as a full-time resident in the Coachella Valley. Jai is married with two children, and loves travelling with his family and watching his two young boys compete in sports.
Teaching Professional Emeritus
Danie Visser is the Teaching Professional Emeritus at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, and is a former professional player from Rustenburg, South Africa. Visser turned pro in 1982 and amassed a remarkable resumé of on-court accolades throughout his 15 years on Tour. A doubles specialist, he won 17 titles throughout his career highlighted by three Grand Slam doubles titles (1990 US Open, 1990 Australian Open and 1993 Australian Open). In January 1990, Visser achieved the ranking of World No. 1 and solidified himself as one of the best doubles players in the history of the sport. While many years removed from his playing days, Visser has remained heavily involved in tennis through coaching professionally on Tour as well as hosting tennis-focused vacation tours of his native South Africa. He will continue his coaching role in the sport as the Indian Wells Tennis Garden Teaching Professional Emeritus.
Director of Fitness
Stu Mittleman is the Director of Fitness at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, and is one of American’s most well-known fitness educators and endurance athletes. Stu is a "master" of endurance, with an extensive international following due to his incredible personal accolades that span over three decades, as well as books that have helped thousands of athletes reach their athletic peak. His achievements include World Record setting performances in ultra-distance running, international success as a Triathlete, and a recent inductee into the Ultrarunning Hall of Fame.
Kayla Michelle is a Fitness Instructor at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. She earned her first certifications in exercise and nutrition through the International Sports Sciences Association to be followed with further education through the C.H.E.K Institute. her career includes expertly coaching celebrities, moms, dads, high-performance entrepreneurs, athletes, and military clientele of all ages since 2009. Her extensive education as a health and fitness authority includes nutrition, strength and conditioning, TRX suspension, kettle bell, DVRT Sandbag, flexibility/mobility, and more. Kayla keeps her finger on the pulse of the ever changing health and wellness industry and the very best practices to support you in your success!
